Resetting AirPort Express

AirPort Express can’t join network in client mode, flashes its status light (LED)

If you want to use your AirPort Express in client mode but unwittingly try adding it to a network that is protected with an access control list (ACL), then AirPort Express will flash its status light amber once per second. This means that it wasn’t able to join the network and get an IP address.

Mac OS X 10.3: Administrator authentication allows root privileges in Finder for 5 minutes

If you authenticate with an administrator account to allow a restricted task in the Mac OS X 10.3 Finder, the logged-in account will have root privileges for 5 minutes. Also, each time you log in with an administrator account, you have root access for 5 minutes. This document also applies to Mac OS X Server 10.3 through 10.3.2.

This behavior changes in Mac OS X 10.3.3 and later, which require an administrator to authenticate each Finder action that needs authentication, such as installing software.

AirPort Extreme and Express: Using WDS to create a network from multiple base stations

Using the wireless distribution system (WDS) feature, you can set up two to five base stations as unified network that shares one Internet connection.

The base station that connects to your Internet service provider is the main base station. A remote base station connects wirelessly to the main station and extends (or “rebroadcasts”) the wireless network to clients that are not in range of the main. A relay base station is like a remote, but it has the additional function of extending the wireless network to a remote which isn’t within range of the main. There can be only one relay between a remote and a main.

AirPort Express and all AirPort Extreme base stations can use WDS. Earlier AirPort base stations can’t.
